The results are in and the 2012 vintage looks like it’s going to be a great one! 2012 harvest was outstanding in almost every way. The temperatures during the growing season were warm, consistent and not too hot. I have a few insights to our 2012 vintage that Head Winemaker Bob Bertheau has shared with me:
“Here’s a look at our 2012 wines. Our Rieslings are proving to be very flavorful and have plenty of beautiful natural acidity. On the red side, the wines are very full and rich but still with a nice seamless elegance; something that we don’t get every year in Washington.
“Our Cold Creek wines are going to be big wines, but will still come across as harmonious on the palate. The Chardonnays were actually more restrained than normal,
which just means we’ll have a fun blending session with them.
Canoe Ridge Estates red fruit was more intense and concentrated than it has ever been. These wines are starting to give our Cold Creek wines a run for their money.”
So, all in all it was almost a perfect season, which means an amazing 2012 vintage is coming. Make sure to watch for them as they start to be released later this year.
Cheers,
Sarah Kaulfers, Wine Club Supervisor

2009 Ethos Reserve Syrah, Columbia Valley
92 pts - Wine Spectator Insider (December 2012)
“Dark and dense, this is smoky and peppery around a plush core of plum, currant and grilled bacon, finishing with strong savory notes.”
2009 Ethos Reserve Merlot, Columbia Valley
92 pts - Wine Enthusiast (December 2012)
“A deep, dense blackberry flavor suggests that this is cellar worthy. Notes of ground coffee, cacao and clean earth abound. The finish is long and compact, with nicely polished tannins.”
2009 Artist Series Meritage, Columbia Valley
91 pts - Wine Spectator (November 2012)
“Smooth and spicy, with a broad layer of chocolate and black olive flavors dominating the fruit, although the blueberry and plum notes slide into the finish with polish. Will strike some as overdone, but has the goods. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.”
2009 Canoe Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills
92 pts - International Wine Cellar (December 2012)
“The Canoe Ridge Estate Cab is a beautifully balanced wine that offers a classic, fresh expression of Horse Heaven Hills fruit. The wine shows varietal black olive notes with ripe cherry flavors and soft tannins. It is my go to wine that can handle any food.”
2009 Cold Creek Vineyard Merlot, Columbia Valley
91 pts - International Wine Cellar (December 2012)
“Cold Creek’s 40-year-old vines deliver a big, bold, brooding Merlot. This rich Merlot is loaded with plum, cherry and dark fruit flavors with hints of dark chocolate and coffee. This is our most intense and concentrated Merlot with great ageability.”
