Winemaker Notes
Bob Bertheau, Head Winemaker

2011 Canoe Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
We craft our Canoe Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon to express Washington’s distinctive world-class vineyards. This cab is complex yet inviting, with concentrated fruit flavors and silky tannins. It’s also very versatile with food. Pair this with beef tenderloin or pasta. Cheers!

KD Organ, Winemaker
2011 Cold Creek Red Blend
The Cold Creek red blend is a truly enjoyable blend to create. Imagine starting with a 40 year old vineyard that produces fruit with intensely concentrated flavors and tannins, then add the complexity of being able to choose from a myriad of varieties, including Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Layer in structure and spice gained by aging in select French and American oak barrels, and the result is a harmonious mixture of juicy blackberry, dark molasses, and cigar box characters that is delicious as well as intriguing.

My name is Kati Sawchuk and I am the Event Sales Coordinator here at Chateau Ste. Michelle where I plan and oversee a variety of events. I work closely with the winery’s culinary team to plan unique menus, and manage our Guest Services staff in facilitating these events. I would love the opportunity to work with you and host your next event whether it is a corporate luncheon, dinner, auction or an intimate gathering with friends and family. I am going on my third year with the company and you may recognize me as I originally started as a Guest Services Representative in the wine shop. The next time you see me walking through the wine shop please do not hesitate to say hello as I would love the opportunity to meet you.

I am a graduate from Washington State University with a degree in Hospitality Business Management. My favorite color is green; I love wine, cola, running and skiing. 2010 Ethos Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley
92 pts & Editor’s Choice - Wine Enthusiast (December 2013)
The best Ethos Cabernet yet, this 100% varietal wine is sourced from 40-year-old vines at the Cold Creek vineyards. Dark, rich, juicy and dense with black fruits, this powerhouse wine brings blackberry and cassis into focus with layers of cinnamon-dusted dark chocolate.

2012 Indian Wells Chardonnay, Columbia Valley
91 pts & “Editor’s Choice” - Wine Enthusiast (December 2013)
The Indian Wells Chardonnay by this producer continues to improve with each vintage. Here, the melding of luscious tropical fruit with buttery barrel flavors is just about perfect. Pineapple, Meyer lemon and candied oranges highlight the intense flavors, and the lushy-applied oak influences carry the full-bodied wine to hold a smooth, satisfying finish.

2010 Artist Series Meritage, Columbia Valley
91 pts - Wine Enthusiast (December 2013)
This new Artist Series red is three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and the rest a mix of Cab Franc and Malbec, mostly from the Cold Creek Vineyard. Blue and black fruits are enhanced with barrel flavors of smoke, tobacco and espresso. Some additional years in the bottle should help this wine knit together seamlessly.

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley
90 pts & Year’s Best Cabernet | Best Buy - Wine & Spirits (December 2013)
A classic and a real steal, this generous cabernet offers scents of cassis and mocha, adorned with a hint of pine. The flavors are warm and open, its cedar accents lending old-school elegance to generous, dark fruit and slightly furry tannins. A great weeknight red for a smoked pork chop.

2010 Cold Creek Vineyard Merlot, Columbia Valley
91 pts - Wine Spectator (December 2013 - Web only)
Ripe and velvety, a dramatic wine with smoke and tomato leaf overtones to the cherry and blackberry fruit, remaining focused on the long finish. Tannins can use cellaring to soften.
90 pts - Wine Enthusiast (December 2013)
This vineyard-designated Merlot includes 14% Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage, Syrah was eliminated and alcohol lowered - a welcomed shift. Rich and loaded with black fruits, it carries interesting accents of caramel popcorn, yielding a delicious, tongue-coating wine with a silky-smooth mouthfeel. It has good length, and the possibility of aging for another five or six years.
