VRC Newsletter Goes Green

09.09.2010

Beginning with our next (winter) Vintage Reserve Club wine club shipment, we will replace our printed newsletter with an exclusively electronic edition. The e-newsletter will be posted on our website and each edition will be archived for your reference.

We are very excited about this new format and the opportunity to add to our efforts of sustainability. Chateau Ste. Michelle is recognized not only as a pioneer of vinifera grape growing in Washington State, but is also acknowledged as a leader in sustainability for our efforts in the vineyards and at the winery.

Some of our current sustainable practices in the vineyards include reducing soil erosion through the planting of beneficial cover crops; safe, controlled spraying using soft pesticides (such as biodegradable oils, soaps, and plant extracts), and conducting and participating in ongoing research on environmentally-friendly methods of pest control. We have been aggressively pursuing the goal of 100% sustainability Cold Creek and Canoe Ridge Estate vineyards and in the fall of 2009, both Cold Creek and Canoe Ridge Estate vineyards earned third party sustainable certification for LIVE and Salmon Safe.

In the winery, we continually work to exercise sustainable practices. Our conservation efforts include reduction of energy consumption, water conservation and solid waste reduction and management. In fact, Chateau Ste. Michelle is a Washington state certified EnviroStar business.

Switching to an e-newsletter format keeps Chateau Ste. Michelle moving in the direction of greater sustainability. In the months to come, we’ll introduce more such programs, including a 100% recyclable wine bag. We hope you will help us support these measures and invite you to visit our website to share your thoughts about them.

Here’s to a greener future!
