Made from Cold Creek and Wahluke Slope fruit, this pure Syrah is compact and dense, and it reveals blueberry and boysenberry flavors that are set in a frame of coffee-flavored tannins…

Dark and dense, this is smoky and peppery around a plush core of plum, currant and grilled bacon, finishing with strong savory notes.

With Ethos, their Reserve bottling, Chateau Ste. Michelle brings together a fine amalgam of meaty and fruity flavors, both sides of what Syrah can offer. They should be congratulated because it’s clearly difficult to achieve this kind of balance. Bright acidity makes this a wine for food, not a stand alone aperitif. Suave tannins supporting the robust flavors mean it’s perfect for this winter’s hearty fare. Despite its stated 15.5% alcohol, there’s not a touch of heat in the long and impressive finish, just going to show that some varietals handle alcohol better than others.

Dark, dense purple in color. Nice nose with black fruit, eucalyptus, black pepper, and spice aromas. Espresso, cocoa, black fruit, and a touch of game come through on the palate. Full-bodied and lively with high tannins. Well-balanced with good complexity and a long, lingering finish.
