Chateau Ste. Michelle 1995 Cold Creek Vineyard Cabernet Franc Columbia Valley

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine - November 1, 1998

Cut from something of the same winemaking cloth as the winery's lesser-priced cabernet, this vineyard-designate starts out nicely with mildly fruity aromas that are filled out by neatly placed oak. Once again, however, things tend to narrow in the mouth, and the wine loses much of its early richness along the way. Slightly hot, slightly dry and slightly underfruited at the finish, this one might yet come around with age, but greatness seems well beyond its reach.

A very pretty red wine, supple in texture, with pools of blueberry, plum and currant flavor extending into a refined finish. Flavors linger impressively.

A lovely wine from its clean ruby color to a long finish of fruit and spice. Fragrant in the nose with blackberry fruit and spicy hints of pepper and cinnamon. Very elegant and stylish. Pairs well with lamb chops or a pepper steak.

Bright crimson red appearance. Medium-bodied. Moderately extracted. Moderately tannic. Vanilla, red cherries. Attractive vanilla aromas lead a ripe, rounded palate with bright fruity flavors tapering to slightly astringent finish.
