“Washington Great Cabernet Values” San Francisco Chronicle - August 9, 2009
"A bit raw at first, with harder tannins dominating. Grows more supple and cassis-driven, with lifted green olive hints. But a stern oak note does remain. Give it time."

Far and away the most successful of Chateau Ste. Michelle's lot of new Cabernets, this very solid and well-focused offering has the fruity substance and depth of a serious wine. It also has an intimation of suppleness to come that makes its fairly aggressive back-palate tannins less of a worry, and, while it affirms its ripeness with a bit of heat at the finish, it is a promising youngster that can comfortably be counted on for four or five years more of positive growth.

From a great vintage, this topline Ste. Michelle Cab includes just 8% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot in the blend. The goal is obviously deep, dark, dense and rich flavors, and the arrow hits the mark. Though not as hugely ripe and saturated as cult Cabs costing three to five times as much, this is balanced, detailed and loaded with black fruits, spice, smoke and tar. It’s got some chalky acids, which need a bit more time to soften up, but shows the structure to be cellared for a decade or more.
