We liked this well-made merlot from Washington state for its exuberant fruit. Syrah and malbec are blended with the merlot to give the wine more dimension for forward fruit character. Black cherry and cola flavors with a silky mouthfeel.

Ripe and spicy, showing a violet petal edge to the lingering currant and dusky herb flavors.

Firm in texture, with ripe currant and berry shaded by smoke, coffee and spice nuances as the finish lingers. (Online web review)

This is a nicely balanced, tightly constructed effort, a Merlot that will surprise anyone who has not tasted Washington Merlot in this price range. It is miles apart from the herbal, stemmy Merlots of other New World regions, or the vapid, watery $15 junk that comes from our neighbor to the south. This is ripe, full, meaty, structured, laden with plum and cherry, spice and just a hint of herb.
