Chateau Ste. Michelle 2008 Indian Wells Chardonnay Columbia Valley

  The Olympian - February 9, 2011

The bulk of this crop comes from the Wahluke Slope, and the production shows a tasty balance of orchard fruit and time well spent in barrel. Golden Delicious apple and pear aromas include notes of vanilla, toffee and lemon zest. It's juicy with flavors of apricot and sweet pineapple, backed by lingering acidity and wrapped up by a piece of Werther's Original.

Though it’s had some extra time in the bottle, the oaky edges of this wine still seem a little rough and tumble. Or maybe it’s the banana cream pie flavors—appealing in their way, but opposite end of the spectrum from, say, the minerality of a Chablis. Front loaded, creamy and rich, this has generous amounts of the oak and toast that many consumers crave. (online review)

Smooth and fragrant, with tobacco and peach pit overtones to the apple and stone fruit flavors, finishing with polish.
