Combining the unmistakable dark-cherry fruit of Merlot with a dash of dried herbs and a careful bit of vanillin oak, this nicely constructed, medium-full-bodied youngster successfully aims for a slightly firmer but still supple style as opposed to something softer and riper. It maintains fine fruity focus from front to back, and, if fairly trim in tannin, it is a wine that will benefit from a few years of keeping.

The 2008 Canoe Ridge Estate Merlot was partially native yeast fermented, went through ML in barrel, and spent 18 months in 56% new French oak. On the palate it displays excellent density and richness, savory flavors, and enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. It will offer prime drinking through 2020+.
