92 points - Savory scents of eggnog and caramel give way to flavors of ripe apple and pear, all marked by a hazelnut sweetness from the oak. After a day, lees notes develop, giving the wine heft and a savory elegance. A stylish wine for Dungeness crab.

The price on the Ethos Reserve has dropped significantly, making it an especially food value for the full-on toasty and buttery Chardonnay. A harmonious mélange of tree fruits and tropical nuances – papaya and banana stand out- with a smooth and luscious mouthfeel.

Bright yellow. Nuanced nose combines musky stone and citrus fruits, charred oak and a leesy note. Then broad and generous but not at all overly sweet, with notes of mirabelle and marzipan and a distinctly saline quality. This plump and rather full-bodied chardonnay finishes with good breadth and length. A tad warm on the end but with the chewy middle-palate material to support the alcohol.

The 2008 Ethos Chardonnay is a blend of Horse Heaven, Cold Creek, and Canoe Ridge fruit in which half the wine was native fermented, and all of it was aged sur lie in French oak for 9 months. Light gold in color, it offers up a nose of toasty oak, pear, white peach, and tropical fruits. Round and toasty on the palate, this rich savory effort may well evolve for another 1-2 years and drink well through 2017.
