In France, Counoise is one of the 13 allowed, but lesser known Rhône Valley varietals. Larger, yet dark grapes yield a light, balanced wine that has nice acidity, brings pepper notes and a lively, fruity finish. It is commonly blended in Châteauneuf du Pape, but is a fun yet interesting wine all on its own.
