As a winemaker, there are no truer words. This merlot highlights the best influences of the 2020 vintage: dark brambly berries, beautiful structure and nuanced oak.

The Indian Wells Cabernet is our warm climate ripe, jammy ‘New World’ style of Cabernet Sauvignon. This premier Cabernet Sauvignon showcases a lush texture and concentrated flavors of blackberry and black cherry.

The 2021 Fringes Pinot Noir is a rare treat. The warm vintage produced a lower crop yield leading to excellent color and structure. The palate opens with raspberry, strawberry and spice supported with sweet oak and cleansing acidity. Portions of the crop were fermented in oak puncheons to create a diversity of fruit expression.

Character builds season after season in the growth rings of the old woody vines. Sun-drenched growing conditions with low rainfall result in small berries with full-bodied flavors. This Cabernet has broad-shouldered structure, concentrated fruit characters and deep color.

Hot, dry conditions and weak soils produce clusters of small berries with intensity and focused flavors. The wine is crafted to showcase the ripe fruit characteristics, incredible aromatics and concentrated tannins that reflect Washington state’s warmest growing region.

Focusing on my favorite Cabernet blocks, I was able to create balanced flavors and aromas of bright red fruit and decadent dark cherry pie that capture all that the Horse Heaven Hills has to offer. Combine that with distinctive refined, powdery tannins and a long smooth finish, and you have Cabernet excellence.

Cabernet Franc is one of my favorite varietals to work with. The fruit’s aromatics can range from dark blueberry and ripe raspberry to leafy, herbaceous notes and bell pepper. Enjoy the various complexities this wine has to offer. Cheers!

The unique 2019 vintage in Washington started late after snow events giving the reds a wonderful harmony of fruit and acidity. This Malbec is no exception. It is a wonderful blend of 95% Malbec bringing raspberry and spice and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon for a little complementary structure.

Capturing the breathtaking beauty and comforting warmth of our Canoe Ridge Estate vineyard in a red blend is a task any winemaker would gladly undertake. Many varieties thrive on Canoe Ridge and this year I found the perfect combination of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet and Syrah.

The vines are planted in soils of flood deposits that are more than 10,000 years old. Heat throughout the growing season is moderated by the strong wind patterns while cool nights provide optimum conditions for flavor development. This complex and elegant wine has focused flavors and silky elegant tannins.

This wine shows the classic Horse Heaven Hills flavors of ripe dark cherries with elegant, fine tannins and layers of complexity.

This grape is typically blended with other Bordeaux style varietals and contributes structure, dark color and weight to a wine. On its own, the purity of fruit presents hints of tangy blackberry with herbal notes of anise and black tea.

Warm summer weather, followed by perfect hang time temperatures into October developed a Syrah with great traits – fully ripe, nice structure and acidity. Ethos Syrah is crafted to show the best of the vintage and the elegance of Washington, but also its bright, fresh, ageable nature.

Hooray, for another Gamay! We got our hands on one of the few Washington Gamay plantings from Carousel Vineyard. This wine saw carbonic fermentation in a concrete pyramid and was blended with some whole cluster stainless steel fermented Gamay lending flavors of red fruit and cinnamon.

Much of the fruit for our Block 9 Merlot is sourced from vineyards with particularly course, sandy soils. These conditions are seemingly lifeless and inhospitable, yet produce a wine with dark, sinewy layers of flavor and concentrated fruit. Light pepper notes provide a top-end flourish to accompany the long finish.

Specifically selected and carefully aged, this premier red blend highlights warm-weather vineyards with a robust palette of boysenberry and biscotti.

Wines from multiple vineyards were brought together for maximum intricacy. Some Cabernet was layered in to round out the palate. Delicate candy-like and floral aromas jump out at first, but hiding just beneath is an earthy underbelly of tapenade and dark berries. An initial freshness gives way to a rich and a powdery finish.

The 2017 vintage has produced many red wines with seamless, sometimes even restrained characters. Our second version of Washington state Zin… not so much. Racy aromas of blackberry and spice mingle with a jammy, full throttle finish indicative of this fruit forward variety!

Often overshadowed by its hotter neighboring appellations, the Yakima Valley is smattered with slopes, swales, and canyons that produce an exceptional gradient of wines. 59% Merlot offers a rich, structured base while 39% Syrah complements with layers of red fruits and wild peppercorns.

With its charming aromas of strawberries and raspberries, this wine was fermented in a concrete tank and aged for 16 months in neutral oak. The purity of the fruit shines through on the nose and the palate, leaving you with a beautiful, delicate finish.

Our 2018 Block Nine Merlot plays with a chip on its shoulder! It’s a perfect example of why Merlot from Washington State is so distinctively delicious! The palate is dense and richly textured due to signature mouth-filling tannins. Alluring layers of sweet cherry compote and mocha round out the palate.

In my nearly 22 years working in the cellar I have worked with many passionate winemakers. I was given the opportunity to make my first wine and I chose my favorite variety. This Block 9 Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromatics and flavors of black fruits, balanced on the palate, with a soft silky finish.

We crafted this luscious red blend with a warm summer day, some live music, and a picnic blanket in mind. We chose vineyards that express themselves early and pushed the fermentations toward a lighter, fresher profile. It is lively, fruity and juicy while also having a satisfying smooth and rich palate.

Bright brambly raspberry and blackberry aromas leap out of the glass followed by candied orange peel, delicate allspice and cedar, and a kiss of vanilla. The flavors are bright and vibrant with juicy ripe strawberries and citrus notes. A silky smooth entry and gives way to a pleasing soft finish.

The best vintages produce complex wines and 2018 was exceptional-especially for Rhone-style varieties. The 2018 Austral is fresh and wild with fascinating notes of green peppercorns, rhubarb and raspberry tea. The mid-palate is broad with ample ripe fruit. Sweet spice and currant notes extend the finish.

Our goal with our Ethos Reserve wines is to showcase the best of Washington for the varietal and the vintage. The Ethos Merlot offers blueberry fruit with wonderful complexity and rich layers. Our Merlots in Washington are so big and concentrated, we actually add a touch of Cabernet to soften the tannins.

Snipes Mountain became Washington’s 10th official AVA in 2009, but first plantings of vines were as early as 1917. The steep terrain is decorated with boulders and gullies which generate brisk fog in the morning and intense sunshine in the afternoon. This Syrah is rich and concentrated. Enjoy with wild game or barbeque.

Mourvèdre is such a fascinating and distinctive varietal, so blending it is always a huge treat! 2019 was no exception as the vintage brought out delicate and beautiful flavors. Sweet plum and blueberry fruit play against notes of brine pepper, and red meat.

Sourced from a single block of our Cold Creek Vineyard, fermented with the pedal to the metal, and aged in the finest French oak barrels, Druthers Cabernet Sauvignon is the decadent wine lover’s dream. Inky dark color, rich, juicy flavors, and endless complexity.

While a departure from the typical Druthers Cabernet, faithful fans and new converts alike will appreciate the unmatched decadence of this wine. Built from three vineyard sites renowned for opulence, this vintage has a sophisticated balance of rich juicy blueberry and vibrant red fruit with a long lustrous finish.

By combing naturally vibrant and fruity Barbera with intrinsically rich and decadent Syrah, we are able to capture the best of both worlds in a truly special combination. The Horse Heaven Hills AVA lends its influence to yield a wine that is both graceful and exuberant, and has unmatched versatility.

Making our first organic wine at Chateau Ste Michelle was an exciting and nerve-wracking experience for the whole winemaking team. It is a commitment that requires the attention of every single person in the winery to ensure the organic wine is kept wholly separate. All equipment must be specially cleaned before use and all safety nets to ensure wine quality are removed. It is a risky business where many things can go wrong, and we are all very proud of the result of all our efforts. Our organic wine was blissfully unaware of the stress and effort surrounding its upbringing and made its way calmly into the bottle with all its raw and unadorned beauty intact.

Of course, the first requirement is organic grapes. Our grape-growing partner faced the same challenges of isolating the grapes from all other farming operations, and the removal of safety nets to protect the grapes from disease and pests. We are very grateful to have such capable partners in our efforts to create a wine that highlights our values of sustaining the land, the wildlife around it, our community, and our wine region.
