Ethos Reserve

Best of Vintage Wines

Our Ethos tier is comprised of limited production wines of unique style and power. Head winemaker Bob Bertheau integrates bold Washington fruit with European-style complexity and structure to craft our pinnacle, “Best of the Vintage” wines. Ethos, meaning “character” in Greek, is crafted in the winemaker’s vision and represents the distinctive spirit of our winery.

The 2012 growing season created an ideal environment for fruit ripening, with the majority of Cabernet sourced from our iconic Cold Creek Vineyard. This is the most complex of our Washington State Cabernets and offers layers of ripe blueberry fruit with silky tannins.

The wine has depth and richness from the warm vintage while adding a touch of Old World complexity for style and grace. One of my favorite things to do with this wine is to let it evolve in the glass for 15 to 30 minutes. I think you will be amazed how it changes over time as it keeps revealing new aromas and characters in the glass.

The Ethos Reserve Merlot offers blueberry fruit with wonderful complexity and rich layers. 2011 saw amazingly balanced, harmonious red wines coming out of our warmer sites, including Cold Creek Vineyard and the Wahluke Slope. Our Merlots in Washington are so big and concentrated, we actually add Cabernet to soften the tannins!

The Ethos Syrah represents the ultimate combination of power and softness. The 2012 vintage offers rich dark blackberry fruit among layers of complexity and a sweet finish. Eastern Washington’s soil and climate is a great match for ripening this Rhone varietal. 63% of the fruit came from our Cold Creek Vineyard, one of the state’s oldest and warmest sites. The majority of the Syrah fruit was sourced from our Cold Creek Vineyard and the Wahluke Slope, with the balance from vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills and Red Mountain AVAs.
